Tutorial : Scrap Paper Drawer Liners

Just me again, but don't get used to this "two posts in one day" thing.  I  just couldn't wait to share with you this drawer liner I made using bits of scrap paper from other craft projects I have done over the years:

I always find that the bottom of my makeup drawer starts to look a little manky after a while and since we've just moved into a new house, I thought I should do my best to try and keep the drawer bottom in pristine condition.  This drawer liner should help to do just that.

Righteo.  Lets get started:

What you will need:
  • Brown craft paper
  • Scraps of paper
  • Mod Podge and a paint brush
  • Scissors/Guillotine
  • Glue
  • Sewing machine and thread

Instructions:
Cut a piece of brown craft paper to the size of the drawer you want to line.  This piece of paper forms the base of your liner, which the scrap pieces of paper will be adhered to:

Rummage through your paper scraps and select papers in the same colour schemes that look good together:

Lightly glue the scrap pieces of paper to the brown craft paper.  Try not to over think this step too much or you could end up spending a VEEEERRRYYY long time organising your papers.

Keep placing the scrap pieces of paper onto the brown craft paper....

until it is entirely covered and you can see no more of the brown paper:

Check that the liner fits inside your drawer and trim if required:

Load up your sewing machine with some thread in a contrasting colour and set your machine to a zig zag stitch.  Stitch along the edge of each of the scraps of paper to ensure they are firmly attached to the brown craft paper.  Don't worry if you need to sew across some of the same edges a couple of times.  It still turns out looking pretty good:

Once done with the sewing (I sewed around the outer edges twice also), paint the liner with a layer of mod podge to give it extra durability:

and set aside to dry:

Once dry, it is ready for use.  Ta-da!:

Oooh now I have a little colour in my drawers!

  4. This would be fun to do with paper cut from magazines...I always cut and save pictures, words, sayings, etc...to use someday. I think I will make a drawer liner! Thank you for the idea!
