Recipe : Apple Crumble

We had an abundance of apples in our cupboard, so I decided to make apple crumble this morning:

Ingredients:

For the stewed apples:
10 apples
2 tbspns cinnamon sugar
1 tbspn sugar

For the crumble:
1 cup of plain flour
3/4 cup of brown sugar
3/4 cup of rolled oats
3/4 cup of coconut
2 tbspns mixed spice
2/3 cup of butter
A dash of vanilla essence

Method:

For the stewed apples:
  1. Peel and core the apples and place in a saucepan.  I use an apple slinky for this as it makes the whole task a LOT quicker!  Cover the apples with water and simmer with a lid on until they are tender.  Drain apples and place in a bowl.
  2. Toss cinnamon sugar and additional tablespoon of sugar through the apple mix.
  3. Place apple mixture in the bottom of a casserole dish and spread out evenly over the base.
For the crumble:
  1. Combine flour, brown sugar, oats, coconut and mixed spice in a bowl.
  2. Melt butter and add to mixture.  Add the vanilla essence.
  3. Mix well, ensuring that the texture of the mixture is crumbly.  If not, add more oats and/or flour until it is crumbly.
  4. Spread crumble mixture over the top of the apple in the casserole dish.
  5. Bake at 180 degrees celsius for 40 minutes or until the crumble has browned.
You could serve this with ice cream or cream.  I serve mine with custard:

Yum!  Perfect for lunch....erm... I mean, as a dessert!

  1. Blast you! I was gonna do my apple cake recipe, I used the apple slinky for that too! Now I won't seem so original! Should have done it yesterday!
(and I just might have had mine for lunch yesterday...)
