Telephone Booth Pool Cue Rack

Due to the increase in mobile phone use, British Telecom have decided to decommission a number of their iconic red phone booths.

Apparently you can buy one for around $3000 if you're keen. While I couldn't find any reference to this online other than in a news article, I did happen to stumble across a company who sell restored booths and other cool stuff, like post boxes!

Anyway, a few years ago my dad and I made Matty a pool cue rack that looks just like the front of an English Telephone Booth. While it is one of the most talked about items in our house, it has never made it to the blog until now:

We made most of it out of white melamine, except for the curved roof which we made by gluing pieces of ply together. Once we finished building it, we gave it a good sand and primed it with 2 pack before having it sprayed with automotive paint:

The word 'telephone' is made out of wooden letters that we painted gold before 'sponging' with black ink. The crown is a belt buckle painted up which was then mounted using silicone:

Unfortunately we no longer have a pool table in our house, so we have been playing with the idea to turn it into something else. I think we'll just leave it as it is for the moment though!

  2. Having a pool rack of your own for your billiards and pool tables room is a grey item between being an accessory and being a necessity. You don't technically need one but there's no better way to store your pool cues that will make sure they are in good working condition and aren't going to get damaged or otherwise mistreated. Check out our Website office for more info.

  3. Genius! This is definitely one of the most unique designs for cue racks I have seen. This would go perfect in a British-themed gaming room or an English rec room. What's more impressive is the fact that you built it yourself! Too bad that you're thinking of turning it into something else though. It would make for a very nice gaming furniture in any game room.

    1. We have kept it as is Albert! We couldn't come up with a better option, so we'll hold onto it and put it in our pool room once the kids move out (probably in 30 or 40 years time).

Thanks for taking the time to comment
